I don’t see any indication in the Mandrill API docs that they support passing the API key as a URL parameter. All indications point to the need to include the key value in the body of your POSTed JSON.

If I try this in the Postman chrome extension ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/postman/fhbjgbiflinjbdggehcddcbncdddomop?hl=en ), “ https://mandrillapp.com/api/1.0/users/ping2.json?key=hYn7IsUYWE7H6UlIfT_OEr ” with a valid API key - it works.
